by Tom Benoit & Associates 03/11/2019

Cities and towns all across the US celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with parades, music, and all things green. While your own community may be doing one of these things, there are a few places you’ll want to visit to participate in their festivities.

Chicago, Illinois

This city goes all out for St. Patrick's Day by dyeing its river green every year. People line up all around the water to watch it transform to bright emerald green. After this tradition, the city follows up multiple parades filled with bagpipes, Irish dances, and a massive party that fills the streets. When visiting for this holiday, you’ll find many pubs serving Irish brews and traditional cuisine. You’ll have an unforgettable holiday experience here.

San Fransico, California

Each year the Golden City hosts the West Coasts largest celebration of Irish history and culture. San Fransico hosts a two-hour long parade that includes colorful floats, Irish dance troupes, marching bands, and of course Irish beer. The fun doesn’t stop after the parade finishes. The parade route leads to the Civic Center Plaza where the city kicks off an Irish festival. The annual festival showcases Irish culture through musical performances, live entertainment, food and beverage concessions, arts and crafts exhibits, and more. If you’re up for an all-day celebration of Irish culture, this is the travel destination for you.

Savannah, Georgia

Here you’ll marvel at the second largest St. Patrick’s day celebration in the world. Savannah has mastered the art of this Irish celebration with an annual parade and festival that began in 1824. Along the parade route, expect to see traditional Irish dancers, hundreds of marching bands, Clydesdale horses, and festive floats. In addition to the parade, you'll be up for an exciting weekend of endless dance parties, live music, and family-friendly activities. If you’re looking to celebrate St. Patrick’s day where Irish roots run deep, be sure to plan a visit to Savannah.

New York City, New York

Since 1762, New York City has commemorated Irish culture and now hosts the world's largest parade for St. Patrick's Day. You can expect to see over 150,000 participants in the parade and nearly 2 million bystanders. The fun will continue long after the marching finishes. Participate in the city's annual pub crawl and partake in a variety of green beers and traditional Irish foods. If you're looking for a big city celebration this St. Patrick's Day, NYC is the place to be.

Boston, Massachusetts

Boston is sure to please you with a legendary St. Patrick’s Day experience. With nearly a quarter of all residents claiming Irish heritage, this city no doubt knows how to honor Irish culture. You’ll enjoy concerts from Irish bands, an Irish film festival, traditional foods, and much more. Learn more about Irish culture by visiting the Boston Irish Heritage Trail that celebrates the contribution of the Irish immigrants and their descendants. If you’re looking for a culture filled weekend, Boston will not disappoint.
